Christ; our inheritance 1

426

The Old Testament contains beautiful prophecies pointing to Christ. In the Old Testament, Objects, lands, fruits etc were used symbolically to point to redemption and the glorious realities we would enjoy in Christ. In this study, we take a look at a prophecy pointing to Christ as our inheritance.

Ezekiel 34:14-15
I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD.

This is a prophecy of what God promised to do for the Israelites when they were in exile. Though they were scattered, God promised to bring them to their own land.

Ezekiel 34: 11-13
11For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. 12As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. 13And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country

God promised to bring them out from the people and gather them from the countries and bring them to their own land. “Their own land” as mentioned here is the land of Israel from which they were taken into exile. The land is a picture of Christ. Just as the land was the promised inheritance of the Israelites. Christ is our inheritance as children of God.

Bringing them out from among the people and gathering them from every country is a picture of redemption. In redemption, God, through the sacrifice of Christ, took us the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of his dear son.

Colossians 1:13-14
who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

From every race, tribe, and people, he redeemed us and brought us into Christ.

Revelation 5:9-10
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; and hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Christ is our inheritance. So in our opening verse, God told the Israelites all the things he will do for them in their own land.

We have established that the land is symbolic of Christ. Therefore, all the things listed in this verse point to the riches we have in Christ. Let’s look at it….
