I turned to look at Anita and found her staring at me.

“I see. We didn’t see him at church. Did he come?” Anita asked not wanting to let the cat out of the bag immediately.

“Oh no, he couldn’t come because he had to go home to take care of some issues but he would come for evening service on Wednesday,” Laudes said.

“How much do you know about this guy that you want to start business with him? Laudes you should be careful,” Bertha warned.

“I know I should be careful but what’s wrong with doing business together? At least, I can earn some good money,” Laudes said innocently.

“Yes, you can earn some money but there’s a problem here, Anita said, you said he’s Humphrey Boateng right?

“Yes, what about that?” Laudes asked.

“He’s also a master’s student right? “Anita probed.

“Yes,” Laudes answered looking puzzled.

“Actually, Patrick knows him,” Anita said.

“So what do I have to do with that? Don’t tell me you are afraid that he would treat me like Patrick did to Araba?” Laudes said.

“No that’s not what I’m saying. Patrick said he duped him. He asked them to invest into a business together and when Patrick gave his part of the money, Humphrey vanished with it. It took Patrick a long time to get his money back,” Anita had not finished when Laudes cut in.

“So what has that got to do with me? Besides, I’m not Patrick, if he duped Patrick, then it doesn’t mean he would dupe me,” Laudes said.

“If he was able to dupe Patrick, then what makes you think he can’t do same to you. Laudes wake up!” I said.

“You girls should stop all these and just support me. Let me give this a try, I believe it will work,” Laudes said.

We all kept quiet…..
