LIFE IN THE CITY Season Two(Episode 26)

“Araba, if you are not dating anyone, is it possible we can get back together?” He asked.

“Patrick, I wasn’t lying when I told you I was dating Pastor Abraham. We are dating now so it’s not possible to get back with you.”

“Are you not saying that just to push me away?”

“Not at all. I’m not lying.”

“Araba! Araba!” I heard Laudes call.

“I’m sorry but we can’t get back together. I hope you find someone else,” I said and bid him goodbye.

I joined my friends and walked with them to our hostel.

“Why, what did Patrick want?” Laudes asked.

“Hmm! He wanted to know if we could get back together?” I said

“Hahaha! Now he wants to come back after pushing you away?” Bertha commented.

“He said he made a mistake,” I said.

“A mistake indeed. Tell him, a hooked fish goes to the owner and not to some hungry guy somewhere ,” Laudes said and we burst into laughter.

“What does that even mean?” Anita who had been *quiet* asked.

“Well, it’s a proverb, think about it very carefully and you would understand,” Laudes said.

“Don’t mind Laudes, she keeps saying that I’ve been hooked by Pastor Abraham. I don’t know why she likes using the word ” hooked” to say that someone is courting.”

“Maybe, she would love to marry a fisherman one day,” Bertha said and we burst into laughter once again. This time with Laudes wearing an unpleasant look.

Few weeks later, I met someone.
We had met at the cafeteria on campus one afternoon when I went there alone to buy food. Immediately I joined the queue, I saw someone join the queue right after me. He then engaged me in a conversation. He wanted us to be friends.

That was how we met. I knew what he was thinking but I wasn’t going to fall for him. He reminded so much of when I first met Patrick. But my encounter with Patrick had taught me a lesson, so this time, I was careful.

We were preparing to go to church one evening when he sent me a message on whatsapp. He was Raymond, was good-looking and quite rich.

“Hey pretty, what’s up with you? Would you mind if we met somewhere really nice to talk?”
The whatsapp message read.

“Aww..I would have loved that but I’m on my way to church at the moment,” I replied.

“Church? I didn’t know pretty girls like you had something to do with church,” He replied.

“Well, Jesus loves pretty girls too so we do have a lot to do with church,” I replied.

“Haha! Alright. Enjoy your evening then,” He replied.

“Alright, but what about joining me tonight at church? We could go out tomorrow,” I asked curious about his reply.

“Oh no, I’m not a fan of church. But you know what? When is your next meeting, maybe I would come,” He replied.

“That would be on Friday,” I replied

“Alright, then I would be there on Friday,” He agreed.

“Alright then. Enjoy your evening,” I said.

“Araba, what do you think?” I heard Bertha ask.

“Ermm, what do I think about what?” I asked a little confused….
