LIFE IN THE CITY Season Two(Episode 29)

“Go ahead, I will see you another time,” Raymond said, placed his book in his bag and left.

The days were moving fast. Preparations for CHRIST CONFERENCE had become intense. Pastor Abraham and Emmanuel had a meeting with the three of us after our evening service on Wednesday.

“We all know how impactful our conferences are, so we must talk to people about it and get them to come,” Pastor Emmanuel said.

“Yes, we have posted fliers and sent jingles to the campus radio station but speaking to people one on one too is necessary.  You should all be able to bring at least 20 people each,” Ps. Abraham added.

“We are working on it so we would surely bring many people,” Anita said.

“Araba has started hers already. She has this friend whom she has been inviting to church,” Bertha said.

“Raymond right? She told me about him. I hear he comes to church regularly.” Pastor Abraham commented.

“Yes, but the strange thing is that we never get to meet him. So we don’t know if this Raymond is a real person or not” Anita said and we burst into laughter.

“I was talking to him yesterday and he told me how coming to church had got him thinking about his life. He told me about how his life had become a mess and asked whether I thought God loved him,” I said.

“So what did you tell him?” Pastor Abraham asked.

“I couldn’t say much because I couldn’t believe he had such a story” I said.

“Well, you’ve got to be careful about these guys on campus, so that they don’t “Humphrey” you,” Pastor Emmanuel said sarcastically and we burst into laughter.

The next day, Pastor Abraham called me. He told me that Patrick had called him and asked to meet him.

Pastor Abraham agreed thinking he wanted to talk to him about something bothering him or something concerning the Word of God.

“So what did he want to discuss with you?” I asked quite anxious.

“Hmm! The guy doesn’t want to let you go,” Pastor Abraham said.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Ermm, he said he wanted to find out if I was really dating you. He also asked me if I knew that you are his ex-girlfriend and that you got pregnant and aborted it?”

“Really? What has gotten into Patrick? So what did you tell him?” I asked.

“I told him I knew about all that and wasn’t bothered about it. Also, I advised him to move on since you have moved on,” Pastor Abraham narrated.

“Hmm, I’m so sorry for all of this,” I apologized.

“It’s alright. He’s still growing in the knowledge of Christ so some of these things are expected,” Pastor Abraham said.

“I agree but I think it is getting too much. Patrick needs to see that I’m no longer that first year girl he deceived,” I said quite angry.

“Yeah, you are all grown; you are an old woman now, we know,” Pastor Abraham said sarcastically causing me to laugh….
