Monica: So are you saying, Jesus didn’t condemn the woman caught in adultery eventhough what she did was wrong?

George: Yes, it was a sin but Jesus had mercy on her. Even though he hadn’t died and resurrected, he didn’t condemn her because he knew he would pay for her sins.

George: Now he has already paid for your sins through his death and resurrection so he doesn’t condemn you.

Monica: I see. It looks too simple to accept. For instance, in my life, I have let God down severally and I feel like it’s all my fault.

George: It’s the truth I’m preaching to you. It may be your fault but God does not condemn you, he’s merciful towards you.

George: Monica, take my Bible and read this:

She stared at it for a while before reading.

Monica: Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

George: He’s merciful to you not to deal with you as your sins deserve. He does not count your sins against you. Open to Psalm 103: 10-12

Monica: Psalms 103:10-12 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, So great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, So far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

George: Did you see that, God does not deal with us according to our sins and his mercy towards us who trust in him in great. He showed us his mercy when he sent Jesus to take the punishment of our sins upon himself.

Monica put her head on her laps and began to shed tears.

George: It’s alright Monica, God loves you and has forgiven you.

Monica (wiping away her tears): Thanks so much. I’ve been born again since I was seven years old but never did I know that God was merciful to me and that he doesn’t deal with me according to my sins. I feel a sense of relief now. I thought God was actually going to kill me for all I had done so I decided to go ahead of him and take my own life. But now I know that God loves me.

Back in the hospital where Kingsley was, he had regained consciousness and was told that a man had brought him to the hospital. As he lied on the bed, he wondered what had happened to Marvin. He feared that he may have been killed. He tried to reach Ken and Cyrus but none of them answered their phones.

They were the only family he had. He had left home several years ago when his mum reprimanded him once for doing something wrong. She had suspected that her son was doing something wrong. She didn’t understand why he left home at night and came back the following day. So that morning, she called Kingsley and told him that she wouldn’t take any deviant behavior from him.

“You are a young boy and this is the time to do something worthwhile so that you can help take care of your siblings. You shouldn’t be following friends to do things you shouldn’t do,” she had said.

He didn’t like what his mum said. He felt like his mum was trying to control him, so he left home that day, bought the house in the neighborhood with money from the arm-robbery business and never thought of returning home.

He tried their lines again but none of them answered. When he thought about how he lied in the bed helplessly, with the possibility of his leg being amputated, he couldn’t help but cry. He didn’t know how he was going to deal with it. Only God could save him this time.

Harriet too was dying slowly. It had been confirmed that she was HIV positive. The thought of having to die from HIV weakened her. She had been very careful not to contract any deadly disease in her dealings with men but she didn’t know what happened that landed her into this mess.

She felt used, ashamed and hurt. She had no one to talk to. She had been trying to call Abigail but her phone was off. She decided to call Monica. She had tried her line several times but Monica never answered her calls.

“It’s awesome the kind of transformation that’s hitting this neighborhood, God is good,” Joshua remarked as they walked home from Monica’s house.

“I know for sure that the gospel is the power of God to save and nothing can refute that,” George said.

Just then, Cyrus’ phone began to ring. He stood to answer the call whiles the others took the lead. He joined them after answering the call.

“Bro. George, there’s another problem, Kingsley just called to say he’s in the hospital right now…
